Inalpe de Corbyre – Alpine Traditions in the Heart of Valais

Each year, the Inalpe de Corbyre marks a highlight of Valais traditions, as the herds make their way to the alpine pastures in a festive and authentic atmosphere.

In the heart of the mountains, this special day celebrates the famous Queen Cow Fights, a true symbol of local heritage. The Hérens cows, renowned for their strength and character, compete in impressive contests to establish the hierarchy of the herd.

Beyond the competitions, the event offers a complete immersion into alpine culture, with a friendly atmosphere, local specialties and entertainment that bring together visitors and enthusiasts alike.

Activities begin at 9:00 a.m. with the departure of the herds. The Queen Cow Fights start at 10:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day, before resuming from 5:00 p.m.. From 11:30 a.m., visitors can enjoy food on site, including grilled meats, sausages, raclette and other regional specialties.

To reach the Corbyre alpine pasture, visitors can either walk from Plan-Mayens or take the free Montana–Arnouva gondola lift available for the occasion.

Combining tradition, spectacle and conviviality, the Inalpe de Corbyre offers a unique experience at the very heart of Valais heritage and identity.
