Welcome to Brig
Brig-Glis, located in the heart of the Upper Valais, is a town where history, nature and modern life come together. Framed by mountains and crossed by the Rhône River, it connects the plains to the Alpine world and serves as a gateway between northern and southern Europe, thanks to the legendary Simplon Pass, one of the most iconic Alpine crossings.
Rich in heritage, Brig charms visitors with its picturesque old town, cobbled streets, historic mansions, and above all, the magnificent Stockalper Palace, a 17th-century baroque masterpiece and symbol of the city’s historic grandeur. This remarkable building tells the story of Kaspar Stockalper, one of the great pioneers of Alpine trade.
But Brig-Glis is not just about history. It is a vibrant and welcoming town where culture, nature and energy coexist in perfect balance. The centre offers a lively mix of cafés, restaurants, museums, and shops, while the surrounding region is ideal for outdoor adventures such as hiking, mountain biking, skiing, or relaxing at the Brigerbad thermal baths.
Its location makes Brig-Glis an ideal starting point for exploring the Valais Alps, the Simplon Pass, and the UNESCO World Heritage site Jungfrau-Aletsch. From here, Zermatt, Saas-Fee, and even Domodossola in Italy are easily accessible, reinforcing the region’s open and cosmopolitan spirit.
Between tradition and openness, Brig-Glis embodies the essence of the Upper Valais – authentic, radiant and inspired by the peaks.
